Dystopian Wars – Terrain (1:1200 Scale) 5

Land ahoy!!!

So Dystopian Wars, A SteamPunk Victoriana naval game in 1:1200 scale! Spartan Games have really pushed the boat out… no pun intended (hehe) with totally amazing and beautiful models! Even unpainted the models look amazing but a recent surge of interest at my gaming club has seen the players getting their fleets painted (mainly by me) and so I decided: Fully painted beautiful models need some nice terrain to adorn the ocean!

We had been using a series of products by Gale Force 9 (available from Battlefront Miniatures in the UK) from their Battlefield in a Box Range.

Hills as Islands:

and Rocky Outcrops as Rocks

on a Seascape Battle Mat by Hotz Artworks (Hotz Mats)

The mat was brilliant, we had chosen the one without hexes and loved the fact that the models didn’t slip around on it! The scenery needed something to stop it looking like a 28mm scale hill and more like an Island….. that’s where me and some NavWar 1:1200 scale naval scenery would come in!

After some placement of the scenery and gap filling the hills were ready to paint and were pretty straight forward, finishing them off with the edge of beach and this is what we’ve got (rocky outcrops were left as is pictured above but with a Beach sand edge to them):

    They’re awesome, Dave.

What’s the finish on the GF9 stuff like ‘out of the box’ – I’ve been tempted with getting some for my collection, but not gotten around to it yet as I’ve never had a chance to see any ‘in the flesh’ or speak with anyone who has and is willing to do anything other than berate GW at me rather than tell me what’s good/not good about the GF9 terrain.

THANKS FOR THE COMPLIMENT!!! The finish is EXTREMELY good, the static grass comes in a little bag for you to add or not, whoever has been painting them has learnt how to drybrush well!! The Club also owns the tree tower, the elven ruins and tower (which is lovely) as well as the trees and ruined wall sections. I highly recommend you invest in some Tavis!!!

        Cool.

Nice touch that the flock isn’t stuck on, it’ll make it easier to match to the bases of my armies. I shall look into grabbing some over the summer (Got to get getting married out of the way first, though fortunately my intended is a gamer too, so toy-soldier related purchases are usually quite easy to justify)
