Empire of the Dead – 4 Games in – A Review

Photobucket

Ok so I have had the Rulebook and the Lycaon Faction boxed set for some time now and have lovingly assembled them, painted them (I will be doing a post detailing the paint job I have done on these awesome miniatures in the near future so watch this space!) and have played 4 games with them, so what do I REALLY think of Empire of the Dead?

There are only 2 words to describe it……. TOTALLY AWESOME!

I have played 2 games of Stand alone play and love the fact that this can be played as one off games on a busy club night, when you might have other plans! This is because the game play is so fluid that the game lasts for about 40mins!!! In this time you have the cinematic moments, the nail biting moments and the rush of adrenaline when things are going your way. I think that these things make a Wargame so addictive and Empire of the Dead is just that….ADDICTIVE!

I can’t stop thinking about Empire of the Dead, whether it be building a themed board, thoughts of demo games or the lure of the beautiful campaign system!! All I know is i’m finding it hard to sleep at night as I’m so enthused about this game!

I have just this very day played 2 games using the Campaign rules and saw my faction grow in stature, experience and of course itsĀ  wealth in the Treasury! The campaign system is elegant in its design and cries out to be played from the get go…..my advice is simple: you and a couple of mates should use the campaign rules through a couple of the games you play and I guarantee you’ll love it!!!

I am so in love with the game that I have ordered the Gentleman’s Club and Zombies (plus some extra models for conversions) and the Vampire boxed sets. My Gentleman’s Club will be affiliated with the Darkfire Club, with its Evil alignment and zombie mob summoning goodness (this will be a great difference to my Lycaons who are Neutral). The Vampires will be Evil Aligned, as you’d expect, and with the left over extra minis for the Gentleman’s Club I might just do a Good Aligned Club as well!

Hope you’ve enjoyed reading and come back to view my progress with Empire of the Dead, let me know how you are finding it if you have picked it up as well!
