Well, Empire of the Dead has really taken over my Hobby Life!

I have now read through the rules a couple of times, digested the background material and have played a couple of games and I’m in love with a beautiful system, yes I am! Its a credit to the game that I have not only broken my New Years Hobby Resolution to do it but have also broken my golden Hobby rule – only play with painted models!!!

So as I said I have unboxed, built and played with my Lycaon Faction boxed set.

Game 1 was against Ian Hill and a rundown of the game can be read in my recent blog post.

Game 2 was played almost straight after at Portal Wargaming on Wednesday night. It was against Ben Cox who was using Ian’s Brotherhood. I won the game, narrowly but loved every second of it and a convert to the cause as Ben decided he was going to do the Brotherhood as he loved the game!

Game 3 was played at the Friday Night Gaming Club run by Portal Wargaming at Midco Toymaster and was another Brotherhood/Lycaon mash up! This time I played half a game and allowed Gordon Snellgrove to take over so he could have a go at the rules and yet again another convert to the Empire of the Dead!

Now having played through a few games I feel like I have missed something out, ah yes an unboxing of the Lycaon Faction boxed set! So here’s my thoughts on the Lycaon Faction Boxed set.

The Packaging – I like the packaging for the Lycaon Faction, the front has the Empire of the Dead Logo and a piece of really awesome artwork of a Werewolf. The back of the box is filled with a colour picture of the box contents. Opening the box and sandwiched safely between 2 pieces of foam is the models & bases. This is a great way of safely delivering the models to the customer and doubles up as a make shift faction Carry Case until you can get hold of one of the special Figures in Comfort Cases!

The Miniatures – These are REALLY beautiful models (in a feral wolf and man of the woods kinda way!) all one piece sculpts with little in the way of flash or mould lines to be found (having worked with West Wind Miniatures before this didn’t come as much of a surprise as they, in my experience, excel at delivering great metal miniatures for an amazing price – something the big boys just don’t do!!), on these dynamic and powerful looking miniatures. My favourite models are the Wolfskin with the Claws of the Wolfen -a model that just screams “bring it on” and the Pack Master – who reminds me of Lon Chaney Jr from the 1941 version of the Wolfman!

Bases – the miniatures are supplied with the popular lipped Warmachine style bases just like the newer releases for West Winds other Weird History Game – Secrets of the Third Reich. These really add to the overall look of the finished model almost giving them a display model feel to them! In my opinion this was a really good choice by West Wind!

Assembly – as I said the models in this set are one piece and only require sticking to the bases so assembly is straight forward.

Miniatures were assembled with ease and when paint has been applied I will be back with another blog post!
