Praise to the Tyrant – 2000pts Tyrants Legion Force

Hi guys and gals, how’s your New 40k: New Army projects coming along?

I have completed my 2000pts (I like to jump both feet in!!), I do have a few extra bits to add to the force as the project is going to be on/off for the next year as I work my force up in size along with Chaos Bringers Minotaurs Army & SNAGA101′s Red Scorpions. The reason I say on off is I have a lot more free time to work on my projects and am just over 1000pts ahead of them. I will be getting around to documenting my build and their projects on YouTube over the next few weeks!

So my force, selected from the Tyrants Legion Army List in the Badab War Vol.1 Book from Forge World:

HQ CHOICE 1: LUGFT HURON & HONOUR GUARD SQUAD

The Lugft Huron model from Forge World is AMAZING!!! the details are crisp and clean and was a wonderful model to paint! The honour Guard were made from kit bashing Space Marine Assault Squad arms with the Space Marine Command Sprue parts and the Steam Knight Models from Anvil Industry. The Relic Blades are from Scibor Miniatures. I really wanted this squad to be unique and I think the armour and weapons do the job well!

HQ CHOICE 2: AUXILIA COMMAND SQUAD

This unit is made up of Rogue Trader Era Guardsmen and the Titan Princep from Forge World represents the Commander of the Auxilia forces working within the Tyrants Legion, When the force breaks above the 2000pts mark this will be a Imperial Guard HQ for my allies and will be mounted inside a Centaur.

HQ CHOICE 3: COMPULSORY FREE CHOICE – LEGION CENTURION

This was the test model I made for this force, I have to hae one in my force if it is more than 1500pts and I built the model from the command sprue, tactical sprue, Devastator sprue and the Dark Angels sprue.

TROOP CHOICE 1 – COMPULSORY CHOICE – AUXILIA SQUAD

this squad must be present in any sized list and is made from the standard Cadian Boxed set. I painted this as the second thing for the army as I wanted to get the bulk painting over and done with. I chose to decorate the shoulder plates of armour with the colours of the Legion and I feel it helps to unify the force.

HQ CHOICE 2: SPACE MARINE COHORT SQUAD

This was a cool unit to build, it was kitbashed a little and has Forge World & Anvil Industry Shoulder Pads. I really enjoyed painting these and varnished them with a new can of purity seal…….they turned white :( but managed to pull them back to this

TROOP CHOICE 3: AUXILIA ARMSMEN CADRE & CHIMERA TRANSPORT

This was a straight from the box build and went for a battered armour look as they had been in many wars!

This unit has parts from Assault on Black Reach, Anvil Industry & Scibor Shoulder Pads as well as 2 Scibor Storm Shields.

Astral Claws: Tyrants Legion Project – 2 months in

Hey guys and gals, I thought I’d take this opportunity to give you an overview of Project Astral now that I am 2 months in to the project!

PhotobucketSo June 1st 2012 I announced I had fallen off the wagon and had returned to the loving embrace of Games Workshop – I was doing 40k again! I later announced that after a conversation and a challenge set by my brother Edd “SNAGA 101″ Barfield I had chosen to do a Tyrants Legion army – a mix of Imperial Guard Auxilia and Space Marines, this was prior to the release of 40k 6th Edition and the introduction of allies! The plan was to use a variety of models from different manufacturers and of previous editions of 40k to make this army more unique! I was also going to include some,  maybe a lot of Forge World items (…….that scream you heard was my wallet!) in the build of this project!

The Rise of the Badab 3

So it was set, along with a great deal of other gamers from Portal Wargaming Club, I was going to make a 500pts army, play games of Warhammer 40,000 and progress my force after the release of 40k 6th Edition! I had chosen Astral Claws as my brother (SNAGA101) and friend (Chaos Bringer) were doing Badab War armies and it seemed right to do what we had done in the past while working together at Games Workshop…… theme all our armies! This was just the beginning of The Rise of the Badab 3!

Battles in the Maelstrom Zone

So 6th Edition was launched and most 40k gamers at the club were ready with new 500pts armies in various states of painting from just undercoated to fully painted, either way a New 40k: New Army movement had begun. We had the Tyranids by Gingerninjette, Amy’s Space Wolves, Stu’s Space Wolves, Imperial Guard by Rich, Eldar by Rick, Dark Eldar by Ben, Necrons by Chris, LordGordonis, Jack……the list goes on! I spoke with SNAGA101 about calling this The Battles in the Maelstrom Zone, the idea being we could do campaign days, a slow-grow campaign, painting competition and document it all in a series of Vlogs for YouTube.

WHATS ON MY DESK?

I am currently working on a Renegades squad with Brutes using the Pig Iron Productions Rebel and Feral parts

and converted Forge World Renegade Ogryns as Brutes! I also have 3 Leman Russ Exterminators to paint up followed by a 10 man Retaliator Squad!

AS I HAD SAID THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING OF THE RISE OF THE BADAB 3 AS WE HAVE ALL PLEDGED TO DO A HUGE ARMY FOR OUR CHAPTER OF CHOICE!!!

The Call to Arms of the Badab 3

Hey guys and girls, welcome to another post about Scorpius GLC’s World of Wargaming! It has been a busy week on the work bench and have actually managed to play some more games!

A quick mention should go to the game I played the other week against LordGordonis & his 500pts Necron force. I used my 500pts Astral Claws: Tyrants Legion force. The game was a great learning curve for both me and LordGordonis as we have both been away from 40k gaming for some time! The Necron Force was very hard to defeat, it included 2 Annihilation Barges which ripped apart my Vindicator with ease! The game ended in a Necron Victory – the mission was “The Relic”!

I Actually played a game of Dystopian Wars at the club and really enjoyed blowing up MJCaboose’s FSA fleet (my Prussians were on form! I also put the finishing touches to Chaos Bringer’s VLog for BATTLES IN THE MAELSTROM ZONE, his Minotaurs 500pts are AMAZING!

So, my Astral Claws…..

The Workbench filled up over the past week with a few things, first up was Lugft Huron from Forge World – this was finally in my possession, a truly AWESOME model to lead my Tyrants Legion! Then there was an Honour Guard Squad made using Anvil Industry models, Space Marine Assault Squad parts, Command Sprue parts and Scibor Miniatures Halberds. There was also a Close Combat Terminator Squad with Scibor Miniatures shields on the Thunder Hammer/Storm Shield Terminators! I had also received my Renegade Ogryns, from Forge World, which were going to be used as Brutes in my Renegade Squad, they just needed the chaos symbols removing and they would work great added to my Pig Iron Productions conversions from their renegades and Feral ranges! I set about assembling them all and set to work painting them. I haven’t finished the renegade squad yet but everything else has been finished and so here they are for you guys to look at!

I can’t decide if I should field Lugft Huron with the Honour Guard or the Assault Terminators? Your comments would be greatly received!
